In a way, I am the last Rocketman.

While there is a new generation of jet-pack pilots out there—men and women who have taken the solo jet-propulsion dream to new heights and new technologies I could have never imagined—I am the last of a small clique of risk-takers to have learned the art of carrying out a Rocketman performance to a global audience when none other existed. I am the last of a short line of trailblazers who dared strap what was nothing shy of an actual rocket motor on their back just for the thrill of possibly achieving flight for less than thirty seconds. And I am the last of the cowboys from a subculture of a subculture to have been called a “Rocketbelt pilot” despite having no formal education or any kind of degree to warrant such a title. And for this, I am proud.

—Excerpt from The Last Rocketman

“Dan Schlund has led a life about which we all fantasize. As adolescents, we’ve all wanted to fly, and as adults, we’ve all wanted to know what it feels like. Dan is able to tell his story with all the details, dangers, and insights that come with his years of experience. As a witness to his flying, I can testify to the thrill. As a witness to his life, I can testify to the value of reading this book.”
